Budget 2017 provides additional funding to enhance the Territory lifestyle, with investment in sport, active recreation, arts and environmental protection so all Territorians can enjoy a health and balanced lifestyle.

Lifestyle and Tourism

  • $25 million to develop a home for Rugby League at Warren Park
  • $11.5 million for grants to support sports in the Territory
  • $10 million over four years for infrastructure development within Nitmiluk National Park
  • $10 million to construct an indoor netball stadium in Darwin
  • $8 million for tourism marketing and promotion
  • $6.2 million to upgrade sporting facilities in Alice Springs
  • $6.1 million for the NT Major Events Company to attract new and develop existing events
  • $6 million over three years for upgrades to community art galleries, art centres, museums, libraries and keeping places
  • $5 million for the Remote Community Sports Infrastructure Program
  • $5 million over two years for targeted tourism initiatives aimed at attracting more tourists from China and India
  • $5 million as part of the $50 million recreational fishing infrastructure package. Priority projects include sealing the Middle Arm boat ramp carpark, installing toilets and CCTV at Dinah Beach boat ramp and upgrading the Channel Island boat ramp carpark
  • $2.1 million for Festivals NT
  • $2.1 million to support Australian Football League games in the Territory
  • $1.2 million for the Red Centre NATS
  • $1 million to support the Darwin Festival
  • $1 million to hold National Rugby League games
